Be Thankful Challenge

be thankful challengeA month ago, I received a nomination for Be Thankful Challenge. Thank you for the nomination, Shelley! 🙂

Shelley blogs about her family, parenting and work-life. The posts she writes are heartfelt and personal; tugging one’s heartstrings as you read. Do dropby to visit her blog.

I wanted to post this at the end of December, as it would help me to reflect on the past year. Without further ado, here it is..

For 2015, I’m thankful for these people..

1. Blueberry

My hubby and I started several new chapters in this year.

It was an exciting and trying year for us. New chapters were hectic and intimidating at the same time.. our journey wasn’t all smooth sailing, but it certainly helped us to understand each other better, thus making us a better team.

Blueberry has seen the good, the bad and the ugly part of me. I’m thankful that he accepts and loves me the way I am.. He is my hero. ❤

2. My father-in-law

It’s a plane.. it’s a bird.. no, it’s superman my father-in-law!

My father-in-law was here for us during our challenges. I remembered when the business started, he pitched in to help setup the office. As long as the tasks were within his power, he would do them.. This led me to believe he is a superhero in disguise.

He is also an awesome father to us.. May it be watching tv, going out for dinner or traveling; I enjoy spending time with him.. I’m grateful and thankful for all the times we spent as a family. 🙂

3. Our helper

Our family helper is a blessing to the family.

Our trusted helper ensures the house is cleaned and cooks dinner for us.. Whenever we are away for a holiday, we know Kitty and the house is in good hands.

Kitty loves her too.. Although I’m a tad jealous, I must admit she is Kitty’s second Mummy.

Now, she is part of the family. 2015 wouldn’t be the same, if she wasn’t here with us. 🙂

4. Kitty

My blogging muse by day… blanket thief by night. How much joy and sleepless nights have he gave me! 🙂

I never knew what a clean house was, till the day Kitty came into my life. Now, everything in the house is covered with his fur.. I’ve come to understand why they are called FURniture.

Gone are the days of my relentless pursuit in achieving a spotless home.. I realized it is an unattainable illusion and have made a decision to embrace the state of imperfection. Yes, I’ve been schooled by my cat.

5. The lovely readers from around the world

Thank you for your love shown towards my humble blog.. you gave me a reason to wake up everyday and also to look forward to my next post.

Reading your stories encouraged me to continue with life.. it’s a big relief to know I’m not the only one facing challenges. It also helps me to stay positive and be brave. 🙂

For 2015, I’m thankful for these things..

1. Laughter during hardships.

2. The love that holds Blueberry and me together.

3. Blueberry’s provision for us.

4. The holidays the family took together- Bali and Malaysia.

5. The gospel of grace.

I think this sums up for my year.. I hope 2015 was good to you. 🙂

May the new year be your best year yet! See you in 2016! ❤

I’m thankful to receive a nomination.. to show my gratitude, I’ll reciprocate with a response.

Unfortunately, I won’t be following the rules of further nominating 5 bloggers.. The process of nominating resembles a chain letter (I’m sorry) and I feel conflicted to follow this rule.

Blogger Recognition Award

blogger-recognition-awardSometime ago,  I received a nomination for Blogger Recognition Award. Thank you for the nomination, Josee! 🙂

Josee and her husband, Chris share a passion for photography. To all the photography lovers out there, do check out her blog. Their work is available for purchase on Fine Art America and Esty.

How my blogging journey started..

I was 20 years old when I started blogging. My younger sis encouraged me to blog, because it was the “in” thing to do back then. Although I was a little apprehensive, I decided to give it a try.

In the beginning, I wasn’t sure what to write, so I shared snippets of my daily life through photos and posts. (Well, I still do that now.. 🙂 )

As I went along, I started to enjoy myself. Being a socially awkward girl, blogging helped me to express myself better.. It felt great to be understood by people.

In 2014, I switched to WordPress for a fresh start. It was the best decision I made for this blog.

A piece of advice or two to new bloggers..

Keep experimenting. This is a fun journey, if you allow it to be. 🙂

I’m happy this blog was nominated for an award.

Unfortunately, I won’t be sticking to the rules of further nominating 15 bloggers.. The process of nominating resembles a chain letter (sorry!).. and I feel conflicted to follow the rules.

Hope you enjoyed this post.. Have a fantastic day, cheers!

Sisterhood of the World Bloggers Award

sisterhood of the world awardI’m happy to be nominated for Sisterhood of the World Bloggers Award. Thank you, Yen for the nomination.

Yen does book reviews often. If you love to read, I recommend  you to check out her lovely blog. ❤

Now, lets go ahead with the list of questions..

Yen’s questions for me:

1. What type of weather do you like?

Rainy weather! A sudden downpour or light drizzle is good break from spiteful tropical heat.. (It’s just too hot and humid here).

I hated rain, when I was a kid; wet weather meant no outdoor activities. But now, rainy afternoons are the perfect opportunities for naps. 😉

2. What is your favourite colour?

Cherry red.. I have a on-off love for black and pink, so lets stick to cherry red.

3. What is your favourite drink?

Hmm.. It’s difficult to pinpoint a favorite; my “favorite drink of the moment” depends on my mood.

To name a few- Beer.. Fiji water.. Shirley temple..

Shirley temple. I like the sweetness from grenadine, slight fizz from the ginger ale, the maraschino cherry.. and the cherry red color! 😀

Side story: When I ordered it for the first time, I remembered the bartender took a long time to make the drink. While waiting, I saw him frantically flipping the recipe book.. (uh oh).. I didn’t think much about it.

A few moments after finishing my drink, I got tipsy.. The inexperienced bartender made me a Dirty Shirley instead.

4. What is your favourite pastime?

Enjoying a good cup of coffee with Blueberry and taking pictures.

I’m trying to pickup reading again, but it’s requires more effort than I expected.. Nonetheless, I will keep trying.

5. What do you find inspiring?

Pretty colors and intricate textures.. nature.. the magical golden hour..  and kindness in people. 🙂

6. Do you have pets?

I’ve a black kitty.. He was adopted on the 22nd Dec 2013.

He is a wonderful blessing to my family.. I love him so much! ❤

7. Do you cook?

Yea, it’s usually simple dishes. I try to whip up something (soup or stir fry) when I feel like it.

Cooking is a helpful skill; I try to practice whenever there is a chance.

8. Coffee or tea?

My day starts with either coffee or tea. When I hangout with Blueberry, it’ll be coffee.

I guess it’s both.. it’s so difficult to choose only one! *sweat*

9. If you could only live on one food for the rest of your life, what would it be?

It would be… Raspberry ripple ice-cream!

10. Use 3 words to describe you.

Hmm.. This is a difficult question. I’m still discovering myself, so I can’t really say. Hopefully, someday I would be able to answer that question. 🙂

☁☁☁☁☁☁☁☁☁☁☁☁

I’m thankful to receive a nomination.. As time and efforts have been put in to create questions, I’ll reciprocate with a response.

Unfortunately, I won’t be following the rules of further nominating 10 bloggers.. The process of nominating resembles a chain letter (sorry!); I feel conflicted to follow this rule.

I hope you enjoyed this post. Have a good day ahead and stay awesome!

Giving it a go- Liebster award

Liebster-AwardI thought it was one of those auto-generated messages.

.. when I clicked on Lisa’s Kana Muse’s link and saw her post, I realized I was wrong.

Ops.. Silly me…

It’s nice to know the community at WordPress is friendly and connected.. Knowing this encourages me to step out of my comfort zone and interact.

Normally, I  don’t say “Hi!” to someone I don’t know.. I think I’m more comfortable hiding in my shell..

.. but in this year, I would like to challenge myself to connect with my friends and the community.. maybe I can start with the peeps at WordPress.

Oh dear. What did I just say? Gulp..

♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥

Sparkling

So Lisa’s Kana Muse sent me a message to say she has nominated me for the Liebster award…  I was horrified when I saw the word, “Liebster”… (em, I thought it had some vulgar connections)..

Ops.. Wrong again! Silly me! (I was very glad I was wrong! Haahaa..)

What’s the Liebster award?

Liebster means favorite in German… This is an award given to bloggers with lesser than 200 followers.. In other words, it means Favorite Blog Award for new bloggers with a following of lesser than 200 peeps.

How do you participate?

Firstly, answer the questions posted to you by the blogger who nominated you.. Remember to link your post back to him/her… Then, create 10 questions for your nominees to answer… pick 10 nominees with lesser than 200 followers… Finally, let your nominees know by leaving them a message on their blog. Voilà!

Without further ado.. I shall answer my questions…

The questions from Lisa’s Kana Muse:

1) What is your favorite getaway place?

HongKong and Bali… it’s extremely difficult to choose either one!!

They are so different from each other… and I love what both countries have to offer..

Bali was a treat for the soul..

One of Raspberry's favorite holidays

One of Raspberry’s favorite holidays

In the day, Blueberry and I rekindled our love for mother nature… we spend our time at the idyllic beaches, the peaceful padi fields..

At night, we fed ourselves with soul food… and soul booze. Heh!

.. and for HongKong..

I’ve been there 3 times… and each time… I fall in love with the place even more…

Raspberry and Blueberry's favorite escapes

Raspberry and Blueberry’s favorite escapes

It’s the dim sum culture, desserts, fresh vegetables, tram rides, hole-in-the-wall eateries, architecture that I can’t get enough of…

I’m constantly amazed by how HongKongers live… Oh God, I wanna go there right now..

2) What’s on your mind right now?

I’m eating Indian Rojak now as I’m typing… and I’m loving how yummy it tastes! Hmm!

3)Your favorite weekday, and why?

Friday! Even though I’m not working, I love Fridays!!

It means I get to go out for dinner with Blueberry. 🙂

4) If you got two tickets to the space shuttle, who would you take with you?

I’ll bring my enemy and ditch her there.

I would bring Blueberry.

He’s a Star Trek fan and it would be such an exciting experience for him!

Oh, I heard from Blueberry that Sir Richard Branson has built a spaceship… tickets to outer space cost USD $250 000!!!

OMG.

5) What is your favorite color and why?

Cherry red! Besides hot pink and black… hee.

Cherry red makes everything look delicious… so delightfully tempting!!

Whenever I see this color on accessories and office supplies, I go crazy… It makes me want to buy them!

6) Do you like mules, why or why not?

Gee.. I’ve never seen one, so I can’t really say…

Oh.. If it comes with a cherry red saddle, I think I might like it! Lol.

7) When will pigs fly?

I didn’t get to see pigs fly, but I got to hear one that flew!

When I was 18 years old, I worked at Four Seasons Hotel as waitress for Banquet & Events.

I wasn’t working at the event when it happened… my colleagues told me the story on how it happened.

To visualise the story better, here’s a rough sketch of how my workplace looks like..

The floorplan for my workplace

The floorplan for my workplace… the grey boxes are doors. :p

On that fateful day, there was a Chinese wedding happening in the Ballroom.

Before serving every course, the wait staff would go to the kitchen to pick up the dishes….

One of the courses was roasted suckling pig….  it’s considered to be one of the heaviest dishes to carry, because the entire pig will be served on fine china.. and the fine china would seated on silverware… oh, how decadent it looked!  It’s Four Seasons, afterall… 🙂

Once the dishes were picked up, they would hurry towards the ballroom to serve the guests.

StartEnd

Area of accident- see the red star

Before entering the ballroom, one has to slow down their walking speed… the door was adjacent to the staff service area… it was a 90 degree sharp turn! refer to red star in the above picture

One of the servers was walking too fast and forgotten to walk alittle slower… as he was entering the ballroom, he did a quick left turn..

The sudden change of direction caused the pig to “fly” off the dish. Weeeeee!!

.. this story of the flying pig became quite a legend… Lol. ;D

After that incident.. Banquet Captains would use this example to remind the staff to be more careful at accident area.

So yea… The pigs flew, when I was 18 years old. 🙂

8) Did London Bridge ever fall down?

I think it almost did, but it didn’t in the end.. the kids are still singing about it, aren’t they? 🙂

9) What was the best thing BEFORE sliced bread?

Pine wood kitty litter!!

Kitty has his litterbox in the bedroom… when he uses the toilet in the middle of the night, there wouldn’t be any funky smell…

There is no odor, because the pine wood rapidly absorbs kitty’s pee/poo.

It has also made cleaning the litter such a breeze.

I would highly recommend this wonderful product. Pukka!

10) How fast do you need to cook for it to be considered “Fast Food”?

Lesser than 15mins.. with this amount of time, you can cook (Korean, Japanese, Indonesian) instant noodles..

..throw in an egg or veggies for an extra boost of flavor..

 Yummy!

Tadah! That’s all from me.. 🙂

♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥

I found myself desperately searching for nominees…

Well, I didn’t want to nominate for the sake of nominating… and I didn’t want to turn this award into a chain letter process… this is supposed to be a happy event, right? 😦

After much thought, I decided to screw the nomination list.

Yea, probably blew my chances too.

.. if the 6 bloggers I chose earlier knew about this, they would be so relieved.. *winks*

These guys would be the luckiest people nominated for Daily Prompt: Luckiest People. 🙂
