By the seaside..

05042015 stateofmind-lumut

Our road trip to Malaysia, last year.. This was taken at Lumut; one of our short stopovers.

I love the seaside.

The salty breeze, wind in your hair, and sound of waves crashing.. Standing there and staring into the horizon feels so relaxing.

The stresses of life simply melt away, leaving one a refreshed state of mind.

Changi Airport

The anticipation of a holiday makes the airport my happy place.

As I was taking pictures, a group of air stewardesses sashayed towards the check-in. Each of them looked elegant and poised, like white swans gliding on a peaceful lake.

I enjoy traveling. It rejuvenates the weary soul.

Being in a different place and learning new cultures is an eye-opening experience.

My brain goes on holiday mode, helping to take things off my mind for a while.

Every time I leave the airport for a trip, I return as a different person..

.. Refreshed, recharged and restored. 🙂

Ghost Street in Beijing

In the day, it was a ghost-town.

Rows of shops were closed.. The streets were silent.

Then, nightfall came.

When night falls, the Ghost Street comes to life.

Shops opened for business.. people started appearing along the streets.

The hustle and bustle of Ghost Street started.

I stood there and watched the place come alive. It felt like a scene in Spirited Away.

Blueberry’s alma mater..

Blueberry’s Dad was in the Malaysian Navy. During his service, he was posted to several areas to serve.

One of the places he(and the family) went was Sitiawan. It is a coastal town located in Perak on the west side of Malaysia.

Earlier this year, my father in law, Blueberry and I went on a road trip. Blueberry drove us all to Sitiawan. My father in law had problems with his vision and I haven’t pass my driver’s licence, so we depended on Blueberry to get us there. Thanks B for getting us there safely!

While we were there, Blueberry brought me to visit his secondary school, SMK Methodist ACS Sitiawan.

We were lucky the security guard allowed us to enter the school compound for a quick visit.

It was big place! I was envious he studied in such a big school. Blueberry went on to explain the changes the school underwent, since his school days.

He also showed me the different classrooms he went to.

The long corridor in one of the blocks. When Burberry was in secondary 3, he had classes upstairs.

I wondered how it was like to study here.. If I was a student here, would I have met Blueberry? And if I met Blueberry, would I have a crush on him? 🙂

With time, everyone will grow old; most things will change.

But some things will remain.. The fond memories embedded in our hearts, will be kept safely from change.

My First Encounter with Plum Blossoms

As I write this, cherry blossoms are blooming throughout Japan.

I always wanted to visit Japan to celebrate hanami(cherry blossoms viewing), but I doubt I would be able to make it before the season is over.

It saddens me to wait for another year.. but I have to keep believing that one day(preferably next year, please!), I will get to celebrate hanami in Japan.

Good things are worth the wait, right? 🙂

☂ ☂ ☂ ☂ ☂ ☂ ☂ ☂ ☂

Even though I have never seen cherry blossoms, I’m thankful for the chance to see plum blossoms in Beijing.

It was an accidental discovery.

On that fateful day, Blueberry and I had spent the afternoon exploring the 798 Art Zone. The sun started to set and it was time for us to find our way back.

The area we were in was all fenced up. Tired from the walking, we decided to take a shortcut to get to the main road quickly.. There was a hole in the fence and we “escaped” through that.

As we were trying to hail a cab, Blueberry saw something..

He got very excited and insisted we walk further. At first, I didn’t understand what was happening.. until I saw a pink tree.

There, standing in the soft glow of the setting sun, was a plum blossom tree.

The beautiful blossoms were absolutely breathtaking! I felt so happy and surreal at the same time.

I wasn’t sure how long I stood there admiring the flowers.. but I was sure my legs didn’t feel fatigue anymore.

Thank you, Blueberry. I’m glad you saw this special tree.. and am glad we shared this moment together. 🙂

(Ps: I mentioned briefly about my plum blossoms encounter (in another post) in late January, but never went into the details.. this post is for my cherished memory trove. 🙂 )

Mealtime..

Mealtime is always a good time to connect and bond with our loved ones.

It’s a perfect chance for us to disconnect from our handphone and tech gadgets.. Also, who doesn’t love good food? 🙂

On our last day in Bali, Blueberry, my father-in-law and I went to Red Manna.

We treated ourselves to a nice dinner.

Seafood platter and beer.. Look at the impressive spread! Crab, prawns, snapper, squid, lobster, chicken satay and ribs!

As we ate and drank, the live band serenaded us.

Blueberry is all at smiles. :) Seated few tables away from our table was the live band. It rained before dinner, so it wasn't as crowded.

Me and Dad. Behind us is the bar.. I wanted to try some cocktails, but my bloated tummy didn't allow it to happen. Perhaps another time?

We visited Bali during the Chinese New Year weekend.

It was a wonderful break for us.. we did many fun things together- discovered new places, went for a spa, tried delicious local food and drank lots of Bintang beer.

I love taking holidays.. It helps to refresh and recharge.

Definitely one of the best rewards anyone can have! 🙂

Ps: The only downside of a holiday is.. Post holiday blues! I think I need a holiday to recover from this.

Bedtime for Raspberry

Bedtime.. the cozy bed I slept in during my Bali holiday.

Shampoo. Lather. Rinse.

Out from the warm shower, into a set of fresh pyjamas.

Another set of routine begins.

☁☁☁☁☁☁☁☁

The painstaking skincare ritual ends and I flopped onto the soft bed.

A bedtime chat with Blueberry.. then, a quick game on my handphone.

Occasionally, I would daydream under the blankets in the dark.

☁☁☁☁☁☁☁☁

Awhile later, the eyelids start to feel heavy.

Ahh, it is time to sleep.

Blueberry and I whisper our good nights..

.. and drifted into dreamland.

The Daily Fix

Blueberry, my Father-in-Law and I went to Malacca during the National Day weekend.

During our short trip, we visited Jonker Street.

The weather was crazily hot… Blueberry and I were melting under the sun.

I had to ask everyone to stop for cold drinks every 30mins or so.. heehee. 😛

To my utter surprise, my Father-in-Law was as cool as a cucumber throughout.

No sweat, no thirst.. No complains.

All the training in Navy must have immortalized him. 😮

After 30 mins of walking, the two earthly mortals made another stop for drinks again.

My Father-in-law was surprised.

“What? Again?”

The Daily Fix was our oasis for coffee.

I wanted take more pictures of the store.. but after taking a few pictures, a few patrons gave me the annoyed stare. I had to restrained myself from further invading their space. 😡

The prettiest thing in the shop was the colorful wall arrangement.

Luckily, there wasn’t anyone sitting near to it… I took the chance to snap a few pictures of it.

It was a nice place to stop and recharge.

After a refreshing caffeine boost, the immortal and the mortals carried on with their journey.
