By the seaside..

05042015 stateofmind-lumut

Our road trip to Malaysia, last year.. This was taken at Lumut; one of our short stopovers.

I love the seaside.

The salty breeze, wind in your hair, and sound of waves crashing.. Standing there and staring into the horizon feels so relaxing.

The stresses of life simply melt away, leaving one a refreshed state of mind.

Shouts of Victory from the Great Wall

Victory02

As I stood there to observe, I felt myself dwarfed in size.. The magnificent wall covered vast stretches of land. It was amazing, yet unbelievable. 🙂

Built by the first Emperor of China, the Great Wall of China protected against raids.

The series of fortifications made it difficult for enemies to penetrate.

It was hard to imagine the fight between the chinese guards and barbarians on this massive wall.. The historical period drama I watched didn’t help in that, but it made it easier to imagine shouts of victories by the chinese guards.

Ghost Street in Beijing

In the day, it was a ghost-town.

Rows of shops were closed.. The streets were silent.

Then, nightfall came.

When night falls, the Ghost Street comes to life.

When night falls, the Ghost Street comes to life.

Shops opened for business.. people started appearing along the streets.

The hustle and bustle of Ghost Street started.

I stood there and watched the place come alive. It felt like a scene in Spirited Away.

Blueberry’s alma mater..

Blueberry’s Dad was in the Malaysian Navy. During his service, he was posted to several areas to serve.

One of the places he(and the family) went was Sitiawan. It is a coastal town located in Perak on the west side of Malaysia.

Earlier this year, my father in law, Blueberry and I went on a road trip. Blueberry drove us all to Sitiawan. My father in law had problems with his vision and I haven’t pass my driver’s licence, so we depended on Blueberry to get us there. Thanks B for getting us there safely!

While we were there, Blueberry brought me to visit his secondary school, SMK Methodist ACS Sitiawan.

We were lucky the security guard allowed us to enter the school compound for a quick visit.

It was big place! I was envious he studied in such a big school. Blueberry went on to explain the changes the school underwent, since his school days.

He also showed me the different classrooms he went to.

The long corridor in one of the blocks. When Burberry was in secondary 3, he had classes upstairs.

I wondered how it was like to study here.. If I was a student here, would I have met Blueberry? And if I met Blueberry, would I have a crush on him? 🙂

With time, everyone will grow old; most things will change.

But some things will remain.. The fond memories embedded in our hearts, will be kept safely from change.

On the road, away from home..

We got up 4am today and left the house at 5.30am..

Despite the long weekend, the traffic was smooth. By 7.30am, we had crossed the borders of Malaysia.

Watching the sun rise from the side mirror.. Blueberry is driving fast, making the world whiz pass us.

The lack of sleep made me a little moody.. the impending flu isn’t helping me either.

A new day of discovery and new memories.. another day of fighting with my nightmares and inner demons.

Meanwhile, in Singapore, Kitty is cared by our domestic helper.

A picture of Kitty taken last year. Although it is out of focus, I kept it.. It's difficult to capture Kitty when he is grooming.. I think he is pretty conscious about people peeking at him, while he lick himself. His pink tongue is so adorable. ;)

Although it is out of focus, I kept it because of sentimental reasons.

His pink tongue is so adorable. 😉

Seeing this blurry picture of him (and his cute tongue) makes me miss him..

I miss him making “biscuits”.. and waking me up in the morning with sandpaper kisses.. oh man, I feel homesick now. 😦

If only Kitty can travel with me.

Wait for me, Kitty! I’ll be home soon.

My First Encounter with Plum Blossoms

As I write this, cherry blossoms are blooming throughout Japan.

I always wanted to visit Japan to celebrate hanami(cherry blossoms viewing), but I doubt I would be able to make it before the season is over.

It saddens me to wait for another year.. but I have to keep believing that one day(preferably next year, please!), I will get to celebrate hanami in Japan.

Good things are worth the wait, right? 🙂

Even though I have never seen cherry blossoms, I’m thankful for the chance to see plum blossoms in Beijing.

It was an accidental discovery.

On that fateful day, Blueberry and I had spent the afternoon exploring the 798 Art Zone. The sun started to set and it was time for us to find our way back.

The area we were in was all fenced up. Tired from the walking, we decided to take a shortcut to get to the main road quickly.. There was a hole in the fence and we “escaped” through that.

As we were trying to hail a cab, Blueberry saw something..

He got very excited and insisted we walk further. At first, I didn’t understand what was happening.. until I saw a pink tree.

There, standing in the soft glow of the setting sun, was a plum blossom tree.

The beautiful blossoms were absolutely breathtaking! I felt so happy and surreal at the same time.

I wasn’t sure how long I stood there admiring the flowers.. but I was sure my legs didn’t feel fatigue anymore.

Thank you, Blueberry. I’m glad you saw this special tree.. and am glad we shared this moment together. 🙂

(Ps: I mentioned briefly about my plum blossoms encounter (in another post) in late January, but never went into the details.. this post is for my cherished memory trove. 🙂 )

798 Art Zone in Beijing

Blueberry and I visited 798 Art Zone, when we were in Beijing.

The place is made up of several decommissioned factory buildings, which is now home to many art galleries, cafes and art stores.

While walking through the streets, we saw a tall building next to a T junction.

One side of the building’s wall was covered with colourful graffiti.

It was impressive! I had to stop and admire the artwork. Back in home, vandalism is punishable by law, therefore I don’t get to see big creations like this.

A bronze statue(about the height of 2 men combined) stands tall at the end of the wall.

Blueberry and I took a photo each to compare our perspectives.

I like Blueberry’s photo better, as the statue looked more dimensional to me.

Great job, Baby!

I haven’t blogged about it yet, because it was such an uplifting experience for me and I didn’t want to rush through a post. Visiting this place helped me to further understand industrial design. I mean I love industrial design, but I never quite understood the era where it started..

.. until that memorable visit.

Sigh… I wanna go back!
